Gale Scholar
Gale Scholar offers 170 million pages of rare primary source content covering 500 years of international history, including not only books, but thousands of maps, photographs, newspapers and periodicals from the world’s great libraries, such as British Library, Library of Congress, US National Archives, The National Archives, as well as libraries of Harvard University, Yale University, Oxford University, Cambridge University, Columbia University, and University of York. The titles in Gale Scholar cover diverse subjects over a sweeping period of history from the 15th century to the present day, such as economics, history, society, international relationships, literature, geography, politics, and law. Many titles such as Eighteenth Century Collection Online (ECCO), Nineteenth Century Online (NCCO), The Making of the Modern World (MOMW), The Making of the Modern Law (MOML), and The Times Digital Archive have been recognized widely all around the world and extensively used for a number of years by world top universities.
Gale has developed an innovative research environment with its Gale Primary Source programme that enables users to not only cross-search Gale’s vast array of primary source collections but also use a range of cutting edge textual analysis and data visualization tools that help users analyze information in new ways. Recognizing the benefit of data analysis for the digital humanities field, Gale has made content available from its primary sources to academic researchers for data mining and text mining, by which text or datasets are crawled by software that recognizes entities, relationships, and action – helps researchers draw new conclusions among disparate data elements and is increasingly an important area of scholarly research.
