The Old Library Building of Peking University (the West Building)

The old library building of Peking University was the only large building on campus when its construction started in April 1973. On December 30th, 1974, it was completed, boasting an overall floor area of 23814 ㎡. The edifice of the building looked like the shape of a Chinese character,"出". It was the largest library in China, unrivalled in its facilities at that time. In 2005, it was named "the West Library Building" after its renovation, and on the opposite, there rose "the East Library Building" that was completed in 1998.
