Subject Information Service Based on the Demand of Research Groups
Based on the demand during scientific research, librarians of PKU make the most of library resources, their professional skillsand related knowledge, in order to provide services in the whole process of scientific research and teaching, such as literature and information guarantee, subject information service, scientific data and platform support, scientific communication and diffusion services, etc.
At the stage of project approval, the library can offer literature reviews and bibliometric analysis of special topics, and predict the frontier trends, hot spots and key technologies development of the project subject. During the progress of research, librarians can supplyservices including: searching, acquisition, storage and management of research data; training for utilizing data-processing softwares; competitor research, discipline development tracking, patent’s early-warning and strategic analysis. At the stage of project conclusion and conversion process, research teams can receive services such aslong-term preservation and management of research achievements and data, analysis of research output and competitiveness, sci-tech novelty search and retrieval certification services, patent protection, maintenance conversion and application support of project achievements. In addition, the library also furnishes space such as seminar rooms and lecture halls for research groups all the time.
Academic Database
Targeting the needs of research groups, laboratories and teachers, librarians of PKU Library can construct a professional academic database with teachers and students by collaborative innovation and knowledge processing, which contains collecting and saving information materials such as papers, books, data, pictures, courseware, experimental operations, codes and expert opinions, and establishing an academic repository for literature uploading, grouping, sharing, recommendation and graph analysis.
Subject Information Analysis
Based on methods such as article citation analysis, co-citation relationship, quantitative index analysis and etc., PKU Library can offer academic information analysis, such as frontier trends tracking, journal publication analysis, bibliometric index interpretation, etc.

Subject Consultation
Subject consultation focuses on in-depth consulting and analysis including information collection, specialist literature sorting and analysis, intellectual property consultation, writing consultation, research consultation, etc. We accept literature data collection and analysis commissions from units/institutions/research groups in PKU and the public.We can also carry out customized services, such as proposal literature recommendation, individual or institutional (unit) achievement analysis, journal publication analysis, disciplinary research trend analysis, etc. We also provide whole course support for teacher’s academic projects, individual teachers can receive our sevices during application, research, conclusion and reward stage of the project.
Subject Information Subscription
PKU Library has established a subject information feeding platform based on institutional repository, in order to regularly track ESI subject movements and papers of Peking University .
(1) ESI discipline trends
Essential Science Indicators (ESI) is a deep analytical research tool based on the core database of Web of Science. ESI classifies more than 10,000 journals included in SCIE/SSCI databases into 22 subject categories. The discipline of an institution will be included by ESI when the total number of citations of its papers in the past 10 years ranks among the top 1% in the world. ESI only counts articles or reviews published in the SCIE/SSCI database. The data is updated every two months, and the time range for paper statistics is 10 years. PKU Library regularly downloads relevant data and provides the dynamic changes of relevant disciplines of Peking University.
(2) High-impact papers
ESI high-cited papers refers to papers whose total numbers of citations in the last 10 years are among top 1% in the world in their disciplines.ESI hot papers refers to papers whose total numbers of citations in the last two months are among top 0.1% in the world in their disciplines. High-impact papers is a general term denoting ESI high-cited papers and ESI hot papers. PKU Library regularly downloads and preserves relevant data of Peking University, also makes bibliometrics analysis corresponding to each departments.
Strategic Information Service
Strategic information service mainly serves for the Double First-Class Construction of Peking University, providing subject evaluation, prediction, management and planning proposals for management departments in the university. It aims to provide internal and external environment analysis, suggestions for various plannings and strategic policies of the university. On demand of national strategic development, the service also offers prospective development reports and technological strategy analysis for the frontier hot spots of disciplines and national key technologies.

Basic-research Talent Evaluation
The evaluation of talents in basic research serves for the evaluation of scientific and technological talents in colleges and universities. It aims to stimulate scientific and technological innovation, and to meet the actual needs of discipline construction in colleges and universities. Librarians have explored an evaluation index system of talents in basic research to promote scientific and technological innovation by utilizing the advantages of resource information and professional skills. PKU Library evaluates and analyzes the original achievements, high-quality papers, academic impact and core competitiveness of the basic research talents in Peking University.
