Hou Renzhi Donates Valuable Collection of Books to Peking University
2020-10-28

Since 2022, Hou Renzhi, a renowned geographer and pioneer of modern historical geography in China, has repeatedly donated books, journals, maps, audio-visual materials and other documents to the PKU Library. The books donated mainly consist of monographs on historical geography, but also constitute politics, military, culture, literature and other disciplines. Most of the books were from Hou’s personal collection, but also included a few books from his wife, Zhang Weiying. Many of the books were written by scholars or public figures, allowing readers to observe the friendship between them through the gifting of books. In 2012, PKU Library established a database for Hou Renzhi and Zhang Weiying’s book collection, which included a biography of the book donors, list of donated books, research on the book collection, stories about the book collection, preface and postscripts of the donated books, photos and videos of the book donation ceremony and more.
